Barlova Science Night Presents: Revolution in Exoplanets

As you may know, Tartu becomes a space mission Centre for a week in the end of April. On 23–26 April 2024, Tartu Observatory will host the European Space Agency's ARIEL mission Consortium Meeting in the City of Good Thoughts. ARIEL is the first telescope entirely dedicated to measuring the chemical composition and thermal structures of exoplanet atmospheres. During its 4-year mission, ARIEL will study what exoplanets are made of, how they formed, and how they evolve.

NASA will contribute an instrument CASE to a European space mission that will explore the atmospheres of hundreds of planets orbiting stars beyond our Sun.

Our guests are David R. Ciardi (NASA Exoplanet Science Institute) and Douglas M. Hudgins (NASA Ames Research Center) who will talk about the revolution of exoplanets and NASA missions helping us to understand our place in the Universe. Planets orbiting stars other than our Sun were first discovered just under 30 years changing our view of the Universe and ourselves.  NASA has flown a series of missions have and are continuing to shape our view of planets orbiting other stars – with an eventual eye toward searching for potentially habitable worlds.

The science evening series is organized by Tartu Observatory of the University of Tartu. These evenings combine the fresh science news with a pleasant company and atmosphere. Science evenings take place once a month.
